"The pilgrims had limited opportunities to trade with the English aristocracy, mainly due to their social background and religious persecution they faced. Before embarking to New England, they were mainly a group of English religious separatists who tried to avoid conflicts with the Church of England and the aristocracy.
Trade at that time took place mainly at the local and regional levels, and the aristocracy usually traded with large merchants and entrepreneurs. The pilgrims, being a religious group seeking religious freedom, did not have significant resources or influence that could attract the attention of the aristocracy as trading partners.
However, after arriving in New England, the pilgrims established trade contacts with various groups, including Native Americans, other settlers, and European merchants. Their trade was mainly focused on the exchange of agricultural goods, furs, wood, and other natural resources."
